CFD Trading & Traditional Trading

A contract for difference (CFD) is an online trading instrument that allows investors to speculate on securities price movements. The investor receives profits from securities price fluctuations, not ownership of the underlying asset.

Some of the underlying assets include stocks, indices, commodities, or traditional currencies. CFDs are attractive to investors because they allow such investors to enjoy the advantage of leverage. With leverage, it is easier to open trades with a smaller capital expenditure than to purchase the underlying asset with a larger capital.

The two main differences between stock trading and CFD trading are leverage and asset ownership. If you invest in a stock, this means that you own the stocks first and become a partial owner of the company, as you pay the full quoted price per share. CFD trading does not require phone calls or physical presence on the exchange.

With lower capital requirements, novice traders have greater access to different financial markets. A CFD trading platform like ATFX allows investors to trade hundreds of popular financial products from the comfort of their home computers.

CFD Trading Broker

CFDs allow more traders to invest in various asset classes without purchasing any physical products. More CFD products emerge every day requiring a broker to facilitate those trades. There is no central exchange for all CFD traders to go to when executing their transactions. Instead, every CFD trader should use a CFD trading broker. The CFD broker offers hundreds of financial products to the investor.

Although CFDs represent ideal products for short-term traders and hedging investors, finding the best CFD broker can still be a challenge for a new investor. Hundreds of CFD brokers offer competitive services, making it even more difficult to choose one. It also requires conducting thorough research before settling on one company.

Variable Spreads

It offers variable spreads depending on market fluctuations and its time.

Commission Fees

Commissions are charged on trades or withdrawals. If charged on trades, commissions are an agreed percentage of the spread.

When you trade CFDs, you buy the difference in price from the point at which you open the contract until you close it.

Traders are advised to only deal with regulated brokers if they want to protect their portfolio. Regulators set the standards of competitiveness and security offered by brokers who join their regulatory entities. They are mainly grouped into jurisdictions, and in this way, brokers from a particular region will have a preference for a single regulatory entity. CySEC, ASIC, ESMA, BVIFSA, IFSC and CIMA are some of the best regulators. Official regulators like CySEC are an excellent choice because they offer a good mix of security and competition.

Confirm your broker’s regulatory status by reading the footnotes at the bottom of its platform’s home page.
